GENERAL: NZX: Over 65000 metric tonnes of grain on offer on CLEAR

Over 65,000 metric tonnes of grain on offer on CLEAR Grain Exchange

19 January 2010 - There is currently over 65,000 metric tonnes of grain on offer on the CLEAR Grain Exchange. Grain on offer refers to grain that has a price set on it and is available for purchase.

Over 3,000 Australian grain growers are actively using the CLEAR Grain Exchange system, the Australian grain industry's only provider of online trading and clearing services for buyers and sellers of grain.

Robert Nelson, Business Development Manager at CLEAR Grain Exchange said, "There has been a lot of support for CLEAR this season from both grain growers and buyers. CLEAR offers growers a connection to a large group of buyers and traders, access to the best prices on offer and secure, prompt payment. Buyers are attracted to the live, transparent market provided by CLEAR."

A steady stream of new buyers have registered on the CLEAR Grain Exchange over the 2009/10 season and more buyers are expected on board as the season progresses and more grain comes on offer via the CLEAR system.

CLEAR has an integration agreement in place with the GrainCorp stock system which allows growers with grain warehoused at a GrainCorp site to sell their grain via CLEAR. Any grain grower storing their grain at one of GrainCorp's 250-plus sites has a CLEAR account automatically created for them to sell their grain.

"There are currently millions of tonnes of grain in store at GrainCorp sites and we expect a large portion of this to be placed on offer on CLEAR Grain Exchange in the coming months," said Nelson.
