CONTACT ENERGY 2010 ANNUAL MEETING AND ANNUAL RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT

Contact Energy Limited confirmed today that its annual results would be released to the New Zealand Exchange on 20 August 2010. Contact also advised that its next annual meeting would be held in Christchurch on 27 October 2010.

Shareholders are advised that, subject to approval from Contact's Board of Directors, the record date for payment of the final distribution for the year will be 3 September 2010. Subject to Board approval, it is intended that Contact's profit distribution plan will apply to the final distribution and an election notice for buy-back of bonus shares issued will be sent to all shareholders following the record date.

The annual meeting will be held at the Christchurch Convention Centre, 95 Kilmore Street, Christchurch on 27 October 2010. The meeting will be broadcast live on the company's website www.contactenergy.co.nz.

Nominations for election of directors of Contact close at 9am on 30 August 2010. Nominations must be made by a security holder entitled to attend and vote at the annual meeting and should be addressed to 'Director nominations', c/- General Counsel and Company Secretary, PO Box 10742, Wellington.
