CONTACT ANNOUNCES CHANGE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Contact Energy today announced the retirement of John Milne from the Board. Chairman Grant King said that Mr Milne, a director since Contact's establishment in 1995, had come to a decision that it was necessary for him to refocus on his academic and other personal commitments. His retirement is effective from 30 June 2010, the end of the company's financial year.

Mr King said Mr Milne had made an important contribution to the company, and to its Board deliberations, including as Chairman of the Board Audit Committee since inception.

"On behalf of Contact Energy I thank John for all he has done for the Board and for the company as a whole. John has contributed greatly as an Independent Director to Contact's development and success throughout its life, which stretches from its initial establishment, incorporation as a State-Owned Enterprise, the subsequent public float and development as a successful listed entity," said Mr King.
