CONTACT ENERGY HALF YEAR RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT

Contact Energy Limited confirmed today that its half year results for the six months ended 31 December 2009 will be released to the New Zealand Exchange on 23 February 2010.

Shareholders are advised that, subject to approval from Contact's Board of Directors, the record date for the interim distribution in respect of the financial year ended 30 June 2010 will be 9 March 2010. It is intended that Contact's profit distribution plan will apply to the distribution and an election notice for buy-back of bonus shares issued will be sent to all shareholders following the record date.
